Project Description

Located on the vibrant Didouche Mourad Street in Algiers, this café-restaurant is composed of a 56 m² patisserie space and a 62 m² restaurant area, connected by a transitional corridor. The existing ambiance featured floral wallpaper, parquet flooring, and Renaissance-style moldings — rich but dated, in need of spatial and experiential renewal.

Proposal

Our concept evolved through multiple consultations, staying true to Synecca’s principles of sensory clarity, sustainable textures, and emotional grounding. The design was structured around two distinct but connected atmospheres

1. The Café-Pâtisserie - Chic & Soothing

To create a serene, sensory-forward pâtisserie, we developed a soft, layered palette combining:

The layout supports both takeaway flow and calm dine-in rituals. Sustainable finishes and subtle transitions were prioritized to reduce visual noise and improve atmosphere.

The floor will be covered in light beige stone combined with pale blue ceramic tiles with floral motifs. A matching cyan blue will cover the interior walls, enhancing a soothing, soft, and aesthetically pleasing effect.

For accessories and finishes, we will find the brown color at the tables and partitions with a touch of “lavender-pink” color at the chairs. The lavender-pink color will thus unify and balance the whole.

2. Le Restaurant Bistro

This dining area leans into rustic Mediterranean elegance:

Accents like ceramic jars, candles, and dried florals add storytelling and slow-living aesthetics, aligning with Synecca’s intentionality and local sensibility.

The restaurant will offer a more cozy and welcoming atmosphere, with a menu featuring comforting dishes in an Italian bistro style, along with sweet treats for dessert. From there, I’m sticking with the same color scheme, with more accentuated hues combining a rustic brown with a deep, vibrant smalt blue; with a touch of pinkish lavender for balance.

The floor will feature light beige stone combined with deep blue ceramic tiles with geometric patterns. The walls will be covered with a rough, textured stucco-style plaster in a dark beige shade. This rough appearance will accentuate the rustic and authentic feel of the Italian Mediterranean style.

Still in the spirit of a warm atmosphere, I propose a false ceiling with suspended and woven wooden planks at the level of the large room and a false ceiling with exposed beams at the level of the small room. The idea is to use natural materials referring to the weaving of wicker and bamboo.

For accessories and finishing touches, we’ll always maintain a cozy and comforting atmosphere with comfortable wicker chairs and bamboo pendant lights for a subdued ambiance. We’ll finish with linen/cotton table runners and cotton chair cushions in a pinkish lavender color.

Decorative accessories will accentuate and complement the overall ambiance, including candles placed on utensils hung on worn wooden boards, and dried flower panels in the family room. Ceramic jars and jars will also be placed in the wall niche in the great room.

Regarding the lighting, we will use warm ambient lighting at 3000°K, with localized lighting at 2000°K at the tabletops.
